Frequently asked questions
How do I take care of my soy candle?
Great question! Proper candle care is absolutely necessary to ensure your candle has a long lasting life.
Make sure to:
Trim your wicks after each burning, especially wood wick candles. This will ensure your wicks do not “pop” upon lighting, and will allow a steady, fresh burn. You can find wick trimmers on Amazon. Trim to either 1/4th of an inch, or just to get rid of burnt wood or cotton wick.
Let your candle wax fully melt to the edges of the jar, this is called the melt pool. All candles have “wax memory”, and the wax will remember the expanse of its pool once it is burned. This means that if it not melted fully to the edges in an even pool, your candle will burn in that shape for the rest of its life!
Why does my soy candle look bumpy after the first burn?
Pure soy wax, without additives or other wax blended in may look rough, frosted, or bumpy on top after burning. Do not worry! This is normal with 100% pure soy wax, and is a great indicator of the wax being truly soy.
What are the pros of wood wicks?
In terms of burn quality, cotton and wood are very similar. They will both burn the wax beautifully, but wood wicks have one leg up in our opinion. They provide an amazing crackle when they burn that creates the nicest ambiance. Just remember to trim your wicks. Wood wicks are also notoriously fickle(but worth it), so if you have any issues feel free to reach out!
How long will my soy candle burn for?
The typical standard for burn time for soy candles over 12 ounces is 5-8 hours per ounce. For our 17 oz. candles, they should burn for 85-136 hours. For soy candles under 12 ounces, expect them to burn for 4-7 hours per ounce.
Why soy wax candles?
We choose to make our candles with soy wax for a couple reasons:
Soy is a cleaner burning wax to use for candles! As soy wax is burnt, there are less byproducts released into the air.
Soy candles usually carry a lower fragrance load, meaning the scent is not as strong as candles made with other waxes. This is called the “throw” of the candle! We use soy wax because sometimes a scent can be overwhelming. Soy wax helps curb the scent so it burns as a more soft, pleasant aroma.
Fun fact! The scent released when the candle is actively burning is called a “hot throw,” and when it is not burning, that is the “cold throw.”
Double fun fact!! The hot and cold throw scents can vary quite a bit. Some scents are just a little shy and need to be burned to truly unfold into their full bouquets!
